Making a 9-patch block - choosing the layout

One of the library books showed step by step instructions on piecing blocks together, starting with the easiest - the nine-patch. Here is how mine progressed. I had some white muslin fabric and some "shot" fabric that was turquise or brown depending on the angle of the light. First I had to choose between the two layouts below. Which would you have chosen?
